Economic Impact of the Child Care Industry
in North Carolina
On June 16, 2004 the National Economic Development and Law Center released the first ever ECONOMIC IMPACT STUDY ON NORTH CAROLINA CHILD CARE INDUSTRY. What
that study found was that the child care industry in our state is a significant industry while at the same time is a crucial part of the state's economic development infrastructure.
This study, which was released to over 150 of our state's business leaders, elected officials and policy makers found that child care generates over $1.5 billion in direct revenue and directly supports the employment of over 46,000 people.
In addition to the statewide information, The North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc. extrapolated data and has broken that down to the "Partnership" level. Although most Partnerships are single-county in nature, some are regional. Thus, some data cannot be accurately broken down past the Partnership level.
