Children with special needs are receiving higher quality child care experience. The number of child care facilities willing to enroll children with special needs has increased.

Smart Start Contributions:

1,073 or 2.2% of the children who received a Smart Start child care subsidy were identified as having special needs, that is have a Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or IEP (Individual Education Plan) This is compared to
1.7% of all children 0-5 years old who received a child care subsidy.

605 or 56% of the children with special needs and received a Smart Start child care subsidy were enrolled in high quality child care facilities, that is, have a 4- or 5-star rating from DCD. This is compared to 69% for all children with special needs who received a child care subsidy
