Smart Start's mission is to ensure that every child arrives at school healthy and ready to succeed. Healthy children are children who are immunized on time and have a regular source of health care.
Smart Start Contributions:
17,603 children received a vision screening
40,153 children received a speech/language and/or other development screening
26,206 children received a hearing screening
12,717 children received therapy and/or intervention. The cost of which is not reimbursed from another source (e.g. Medicaid, private insurance)
35,820 children received a dental screening or treatment
59% or 5,082 of NC’s child care facilities received child care health consultation services
52% or 21,436 of NC’s child care teachers/administrators received training and/or consultation about health and safety issues

Approximately 72% of Medicaid-eligible children enrolled in Health Check received an annual well-child visit
54,493 children enrolled in child care facilities receiving child care health consultation services had up-to-date immunization records.
